This innovative program (offered in both full- and part-time configurations) integrates the fields of public policy and public administration to reflect the theoretical and practical realities of the political context of policy development, implementation and analysis; and, prepares graduates for further academic pursuits and careers in the public service at all levels of government, in the non-profit sector, in private sector organizations with significant relationships with government and in international organizations.

The Master of Applied Environmental Studies (MAES) in Local Economic Development (LED) is a one-year Master's program that balances theory and practice. Your eight one-term courses and research paper will give you the theory behind economic and community development. Through a four-month internship and weekly seminars with professors and economic development professionals, you'll gain practical skills and valuable experience.

Centennial College’s Business Administration-Accounting (Aboriginal Stream) provides Aboriginal students with new avenues into the business world. This three-year program addresses the community’s need for individuals with a strong accounting foundation and understanding of Aboriginal business needs. In addition to a rigorous accounting curriculum, students will undertake courses that cover key Aboriginal topics including: Aboriginal Strategy & Decisions, Aboriginal Governance and Aboriginal Challenges & Advocacy.

Advocates are committed to working with Aboriginal people(s) and communities to promote social justice, self determination and self governance. Your work as an advocate requires a solid foundation in the legal, political and social history of Aboriginal peoples in Canada in order to deliver services and design programs which meet the needs of the communities and individuals.

This diploma program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and expertise to undertake responsibilities, both on and off-reserve, in relation to sound financial management and sustainable Aboriginal communities. Furthermore, the program will provide graduates with the expertise to advise in matters relating to financial administration, capital projects, financial planning and marketing.

Individual scholars at Carleton have carried out research in Northern and Aboriginal issues for several years, often in collaboration with the federal government, Aboriginal organizations, or private agencies. The interdisciplinary program area in Aboriginal Studies and the North brings these scholars together with students from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities and from Northern Canada. Specialists from various academic disciplines in the university and also from government and other agencies will direct research and supervise theses.

The only undergraduate degree of its kind in Canada, this distinctive interdisciplinary program integrates several disciplines including Community Economic & Social Development, Social Welfare, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics and Business Administration. The creation of an undergraduate degree linking the economic health and social well being of smaller urban, rural, Northern and First Nation communities has responded to an important societal need, and equipped professionals with the knowledge and competencies to become innovative and effective practitioners.

Urban and Inner-City Studies is an interdisciplinary Major concerned with the examination of the city as a dynamic environment. The program combines a traditional urban studies focus with courses that examine various aspects of the inner city, such as the urban Aboriginal experience, the immigrant and refugee experience, and the role of women.

The focus of the degree is on the theory and practice of the distinctive social, economic, political and legal environments of Indigenous governance. Planning is underway to complement the current thesis-based program with a second option involving a cooperative work placement and a third option of course work and a comprehensive examination, expected to be available in the future.

This graduate level program is intended to train you – aspiring development practitioners – to understand and manage global sustainable development challenges across health sciences, natural sciences, social sciences and management disciplines. As a graduate of the MDP Program, you will be a new class of development practitioners versed in the holistic process with the skills to work with anyone – anywhere in the world.
