The purpose of this Information Letter is to provide an overview of the oil royalty calculation process for companies (lessees) who have entered into subsurface contracts, normally lease agreements, with Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) and for companies who are paying oil royalties to IOGC (royalty payers) on behalf of these lessees. More detailed information on specific aspects of the calculation process can be found in other Information Letters referred to in this document.
Individuals, corporations or other provincial bodies with existing or proposed New Brunswick-based processing facilities are eligible to apply for a Crown biomass allocation. Licensees must adhere to the policy and guidelines referenced in this section.
A Licence of Occupation for Wind Exploration is a legal agreement authorizing the temporary occupation and use of Crown land to erect temporary test towers, take meteorological measurements, and/or conduct environment monitoring activities. For proposed wind farm developments, applicants generally must follow a two-stage process by first applying for wind exploration rights through a Licence of Occupation for Wind Exploration.
An Easement is a right enjoyed by one landowner over the land of another for a special purpose other than general use and occupation for an unlimited period of time. It does not give exclusive use, meaning that multiple easements could be given for the same land as long as each use does not interfere with another use. Easements are issued mostly for rights-of way, utilities (eg. powerlines) and municipal services (e.g. discharge or intake pipe).

A pipeline licence authorizes an applicant to operate a pipeline to transport oil, gas or minerals. Certain types of pipeline installations, such as those wholly located within the property of a plant may be exempted from the requirement to apply for a licence.
