To enrich, expand and develop knowledge about the Atlantic Canadian region, particularly the province of New Brunswick, through individual, collaborative, interdisciplinary and inter-institutional research studies.
St. Thomas University’s New Brunswick and Atlantic Studies Research and Development Centre focuses on individual interdisciplinary and inter-institutional studies on New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada. It also intends to apply research knowledge gained in similar regions for the benefit of New Brunswick.
The GRI provides an exciting intellectual community for scholars interested in the Atlantic Region. The GRI has sponsored post-doctoral applications, sabbaticants and visiting scholars in their funding applications. We have also hosted graduate students and independent researchers. The GRI offers some limited workshpace, including up-to-date computers, access to a variety of digital equipment (cameras, recorders, microfilm readers) and other amenities such as library access. The Gorsebrook Research Institute is Saint Mary's University's oldest and most prestigious research centre. Established in 1982, the GRI is funded in part by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, with additional support from Saint Mary's University.
