In 2018, the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) partnered with The Conference Board of Canada to conduct research into the current state of the Indigenous tourism industry in Canada. This new research follows up from ITAC’s previous nation-wide research project undertaken in 2015.
Working with our partners, ITAC has conducted a number of industry research projects. This research is undertaken as part of ITAC’s commitment to understanding the current state of the Indigenous tourism industry within Canada. The findings of the research is used to shape our programs and guide our work into the future.
The packages booklet, Indigenous Travel Experiences in Canada, invites travellers to experience authentic Indigenous culture and stories through tourism experiences offered by Indigenous peoples, communities and business across Canada. Interest in Indigenous tourism has grown dramatically as more travelers experience the authenticity, uniqueness and diversity of stories and products offered by Indigenous peoples and communities across Canada. This year’s guide features more than 170 experiences, stories and businesses to inspire you to visit and learn more about the many Indigenous nations, peoples and communities across Canada.

Any person or organization that has an interest in advancing Indigenous tourism in Canada may apply to become an ITAC Member. Members have the opportunity to participate in ITAC marketing, sales and business development programs.
Members who are market-ready and no less than 51% Indigenous-owned also have the option to be listed on the IndigenousTourism.ca website and included in the Indigenous Experiences Guide.
The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) focuses on creating partnerships between associations, organizations, government departments and industry leaders from across Canada to support the growth of Indigenous tourism in Canada and address the demand for development and marketing of authentic Indigenous experiences. ITAC has an established membership process that enables Indigenous tourism industry partners to engage with and show support for Indigenous tourism.

In 2018, ACAT will invest in a direct-to-consumer advertising campaign in the Mid-Atlantic
(New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania) and New England (Maine, Massachusetts, New
Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont, and Rhode Island) regions of the United States. This
campaign will position the four Atlantic Provinces as preferred leisure travel destinations
among identified Explorer Quotient segments.
