The Mashteuiatsh Forum, held October 25, 26 and 27 of 2006, which was an inaugural event for the First Nations, was an opportunity for meetings and discussions, among stakeholders from all sectors – First Nations, Inuit, representatives of civil society, and representatives from the governments of Quebec and Canada –united around the same table. The purpose of the Forum was to bring together all parties who are concerned or who have interests in the socioeconomic development of the First Nations of Quebec. It was also organized to clarify the issues at stake in relation to the improvement of the social and economic conditions of First Nations in Quebec. Lastly, it aimed at facilitating the effective implementation of the commitments and actions promised, while maintaining harmonious and respectful relations.
