The Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada (AFOA) is dedicated to helping Aboriginals reach the highest standard of excellence in finance and management. AFOA's initiatives in the development of Awards and Scholarships are examples of that commitment. Each year a ceremony is held in conjunction with the AFOA Canada National Conference where the following awards and scholarship are presented.

Mi'kmaq Scholarship [Nova Scotia Power Inc., NSPI]

Private Training Schools [Government of Prince Edward Island]

Private training schools - sometimes called "career colleges" - offer post-secondary vocational training which is meant to prepare a person for employment in an occupational field. Examples: accounting and business, office administration, truck-driving, hairdressing and aesthetics, flying, computer technology, counselling, nursing-home and personal care, heavy-equipment operation, travel and tourism, call-centre service, classroom teaching assistance, etc.

New Brunswick Opportunities Fund [Government of New Brunswick]

The New Brunswick Post-Secondary Opportunities Fund was established to match monies institutions raise for need-based bursaries. The $1M per year provincial contribution is used to encourage donations from the private sector to create endowment funds to provide scholarships and bursaries for New Brunswick students in financial need who attend public universities and community colleges in New Brunswick. With donations of $2M from the private sector this means a potential of $3M will be added each year to the endowment funds.

Education and Training: Scholarships and Bursaries [Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Association, NLCA]

Applications for the 2019 scholarships will be available this fall.

Up to ten NLCA Scholarships, each valued at $1000, will be awarded this year to the dependents of owners and employees of member firms in good standing. As well as, the Lar Rossiter Memorial Scholarship Award – one scholarship valued at $2000.

The deadline for applications will be in November.
