The goal of the TRU Certificate in Aboriginal Tourism is to graduate First Nations students with the skills necessary to become employed in the tourism industry. We ensure a high-quality post-secondary program that is responsive to the needs of aboriginal learners and is linked to labour market opportunities and employment in the field of Aboriginal Tourism. The foundation of the program is on cultural and applied tourism and small business skills.
A Post Baccalaureate Diploma (”post bac” or PBD) is a program designed for those who already have undergraduate degrees or the equivalent. It is not a master’s degree, but it is more advanced than a Bachelor’s degree. Totaling 30 units, this PBD program combines SCD theory and guided practice, plus 300- and 400-level electives from many disciplines. Four SCD core courses (SCD 301, 401, 403, 404) plus four to five pre-approved elective courses permit students to shape their program to their own interests.
This program offers recognition to those who seek accreditation in community-based social and economic development. It offers a practical credential within an undergraduate degree with little or no extra cost. The SCD Certificate program offers a wide range of theoretical and practicable approaches to alternate economic strategies and to ecologically sustainable communities, both rural and urban. This 19-unit program has been developed with the student’s need for cost and time effective accreditation in mind.
The program of study is comprised of a core of Indigenous Business Leadership courses complemented by required courses selected from the general curriculum. Classes will include a mix of lectures, group-work simulations, sharing circles, guest lecturers and case-study activities. The core courses will reflect current Indigenous realities and concerns. Students will have opportunities to mentor with Indigenous professionals through their program and complete a significant community enterprise project with an Indigenous community or organization.

The Master of Arts in Indigenous Governance (MAIG) is an interdisciplinary program focused on traditional structures and ways of governance and encompassing the values, perspectives, concepts, and principles of Indigenous political cultures.
The Aboriginal Community Resource Planning Certificate (ACP) consists of 10 courses (minimum 30 credit hours) drawn primarily from First Nations Studies and Environmental Studies, with offerings from Geography, Commerce, Resource Recreation and Tourism, and Natural Resources and Environmental Management.

The Ch'nook Diploma program is designed to reflect the needs of First Nations students in a post secondary setting. It is a two-year program in business foundation and fundamentals that will allow students of aboriginal ancestry to gain the skills required for a career in business. These foundation courses are linked with specialized aboriginal business courses in preparation for transfer to UBC Ch'nook Bachelor of Commerce program, (B.Com.) Ch'nook Major.
