The Conservation Enforcement program is specifically designed to provide training to wildlife and forestry technicians. Trainees in the program will acquire the skills and knowledge they need for a career in conservation enforcement. They will be prepared for work in Natural Resources agencies as conservation enforcement officers and in other related fields of enforcement and security throughout Canada.
In the Professional Firefighter program, you will learn the fundamental firefighting skills needed to keep yourself, your colleagues, and the public safe in critical situations. Training at an off-campus site offers you firefighting experience in a controlled environment. You will learn about fire behaviour, motor vehicle extraction, medical first response, and communication in these training simulations.
As a student at the APA, you will live in our Slemon Park residence for the duration of your program, except when you are away for on the job training. Living in residence will give you experience interacting with other cadets in a way that wouldn’t be possible if you only interacted with one another in an instructional setting. You will develop your team-work, problem-solving, time management and communication skills, and develop deeper gender and cross-cultural sensitivity, which are essential for a successful career in the public safety community.
Apprenticeship training begins after you finish your program at Holland College and are working full-time with a suitable employer. Each trade has a certain number of hours that an apprentice must complete before he or she can take block training and move to up to the next level. Once you have completed the required number of blocks and worked the required number of hours for your trade, you can earn your Interprovincial Red Seal by completing an exam. An Interprovincial Red Seal gives you the ability to work anywhere in Canada.
The Union of New Brunswick Indians Board of Directors authorized the establishment of the UNBI Training Institute in 1994 as a key component of the UNBI's activities. Its purpose is to provide post-secondary and other educational opportunities for the people, and by the people, of the First Nation communities. At present the UNBI Training Institute is delivering courses such as Diploma in Early Childhood Education, and a Certificate in Home & Community Care as a Personal Support Worker.
The Canada-PEI Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA) and Labour Market Agreement (LMA) represent a combined investment of approximately $30 million annually in the Prince Edward Island labour market. This investment will assist the labour needs of employers and organizations while helping to improve the skills and employability of Prince Edward Islanders.
