Skills PEI is a division of the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning. It was established to manage the delivery of skills and training development programming funded by the Canada-Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA) and Labour Market Agreement (LMA).
The Work Ability Program provides work experience opportunities to unemployed individuals who require a job placement to overcome a barrier as identified through their employment action plan. By placing an individual with an employer, they can work towards becoming job ready by establishing a career goal, developing skills, or addressing specific needs.
The Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour has collaborated with business, industry, community and labour organizations to introduce Workplace Essential Skills (WES) training to employed individuals and job-seekers throughout the province. This training maximizes the skills and resources of New Brunswickers to ensure the competitive edge, innovation and efficiency needs to lead business into a prosperous future.
Training and Employment Support Services assists individuals with permanent or long-term disabilities to gain access to training and employment opportunities.
The New Brunswick Post-Secondary Opportunities Fund was established to match monies institutions raise for need-based bursaries. The $1M per year provincial contribution is used to encourage donations from the private sector to create endowment funds to provide scholarships and bursaries for New Brunswick students in financial need who attend public universities and community colleges in New Brunswick. With donations of $2M from the private sector this means a potential of $3M will be added each year to the endowment funds.
