The Marine Navigation Technology program provides the academic and applied skills necessary for an entry-level deck officer trained to International Maritime Organization standards. Pending final program approval from Transport Canada, students who complete the academic courses and obtain the required sea-time internship are prepared to challenge Transport Canada examinations and apply for certification as a Watchkeeping Mate.
The program offers a comprehensive course load complete with various training methods and techniques. You build a broad-based knowledge of highly complex engineering systems of a modern ship. You study the major principles of mechanical and hydraulic machinery, electrical systems and distribution, instrumentation and control systems, computer and information technology, and then put the theory to work in the operation of a state-of-the-art propulsion plant simulator. Practical safety training is also covered through the campus Fire Fighting and Boat Facilities.
In this program, you develop the skills and knowledge you require to work with rigging and hoisting with a high degree of accuracy and safety in construction, industrial, and marine settings. You also learn to manufacture, install, and repair rigging that is used to lift and move machinery or other heavy objects in shipyards, manufacturing plants, or other locations.
Manufacturing and industrial environments rely on two methods of machining – conventional hand-controlled methods and Computer Numerical Control (CNC). With CNC a computerized machine is programmed for very fine and detailed work and automation. This program will train you in both methods so that you can enter the job market qualified to work in the machining industries.
In this trade you install, repair and maintain industrial plant machinery and equipment, read and interpret blueprints, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls, operate a variety of machine tools and welding equipment.

This program provides training in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of various pneumatic, electronic, and micro-processor-based process control systems, while emphasizing safety and teamwork throughout the program.

The program enables you to enter the workforce with all the safety training required in this field. This program is designed for individuals interested in working in the field of natural gas and propane installation and service. You are provided the instruction required Gas Technician III and Gas Technician II certification levels. This program includes both theoretical and practical (hands-on) components. Areas of study include codes of practice, electrical controls and devices, fuel gas piping, metering devices, and heating systems.
