Apprenticeship is a method of learning the skills and knowledge necessary to become a skilled worker and a certified journey person. Apprenticeship combines on-the-job training under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson and classroom training at a training establishment. Most apprenticeship programs take two to four years to complete and combine approximately 80 per cent paid-on-the job training with 20 per cent technical/in-school learning - usually at Holland College or an off-Island institute.
Have Successfully Completed an Apprenticeship Program - A Certificate of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification will be issued to graduates upon successful completion of an apprenticeship program. In an interprovincial occupation/trade, an Interprovincial Red Seal will be affixed to the Completion of Apprenticeship Certificate and the Certificate of Qualification.
This form contains three parts: the Apprenticeship Application, the Employer Application and the Apprenticeship Training Agreement. Each of these must be filled out completely in order for the apprenticeship application to be processed. Please be accurate with dates, phone numbers, addresses etc. and please print clearly. Incomplete forms or forms that cannot be read will be returned to the applicant.

Private training schools - sometimes called "career colleges" - offer post-secondary vocational training which is meant to prepare a person for employment in an occupational field. Examples: accounting and business, office administration, truck-driving, hairdressing and aesthetics, flying, computer technology, counselling, nursing-home and personal care, heavy-equipment operation, travel and tourism, call-centre service, classroom teaching assistance, etc.
Skills PEI is a division of the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning. It was established to manage the delivery of skills and training development programming funded by the Canada-Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development Agreement (LMDA) and Labour Market Agreement (LMA).
The Work Ability Program provides work experience opportunities to unemployed individuals who require a job placement to overcome a barrier as identified through their employment action plan. By placing an individual with an employer, they can work towards becoming job ready by establishing a career goal, developing skills, or addressing specific needs.
