Painters and Decorators prepare and apply paints, wall coverings and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and other structures. It is a creative and rewarding trade within the construction industry, including residential and commercial sectors.

In the First Year Lather Program, students will complete 15 of the 25 courses outlined in the Provincial Plan of Training for Lather (Interior Systems Mechanic) Apprenticeship. During this entry level program, students will learn the essential skills of the trade and will be prepared, upon graduation, to enter the workforce as a first year apprentice.

An Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment and industrial machinery in production plants, factories, and industrial buildings. They are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of industrial equipment and machinery that they install.

In the First Year Carpentry Program, students will complete 28 of the 37 courses outlined in the Provincial Plan of Training for Carpentry Apprenticeship. During this entry level program, students will learn the essential skills of the trade and will be prepared, upon graduation, to enter the workforce as a first year apprentice.

The primary reason for erecting a scaffold is to support a working platform. Most construction work involves working at heights which cannot easily or safely be reached from the ground or part of the building. By law, an employer must provide a safe working platform and a safe convenient means of access. No scaffold should be erected, altered, or dismantled except under the supervision of a competent and experienced person, and as far as possible, by experienced scaffolders. Scaffolds erected or altered by people who have no knowledge or experience are liable to be dangerous and unsafe.

In order to apply for the above noted courses, an applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Anyone who does not meet this educational requirement, may contact the College to write the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT). The Carpenters Millwrights College was established in 1996 for those seeking employment in the residential, commercial, and industrial construction industries. We began by delivering Carpentry apprenticeship training to members and new apprentices entering the trade and have since grown to include apprenticeship training for Millwrights, Lathers (Interior Systems) and Painters/Decorators. We are also known for our specialized training in Scaffolding and Safety.

With over 40 health and safety training courses ranging from Emergency First Aid to Fall Protection, the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association (NSCSA) provides online and classroom occupational health and safety compliant courses. From Yarmouth to Sydney, we provide training all throughout Nova Scotia as per our planned schedule of courses each year. We can also have a trainer come to you at your convenience. The New Brunswick Post-Secondary Opportunities Fund was established to match monies institutions raise for need-based bursaries. The $1M per year provincial contribution is used to encourage donations from the private sector to create endowment funds to provide scholarships and bursaries for New Brunswick students in financial need who attend public universities and community colleges in New Brunswick. With donations of $2M from the private sector this means a potential of $3M will be added each year to the endowment funds.
